Gauging method - measures the thickness of moving rolled products

Gauging method includes transmitting fine lines of light in pulses onto opposite sides of a rolled product simultaneously. Images of the fine light lines reflected from the two surfaces are projected onto the screen of an electron-optical storage element so that the distance between the images is proportional to the thickness being gauged. By repeating the procedure over different segments of the rolled product the thickness of the product can be gauged over the entire width with high accuracy.
