PURPOSE:To read always the pattern on a specific track to discriminate easily the pattern, by arranging plural sensors in the direction orthogonal to the carrying direction of a material to be detected and allowing this sensor row to follow the specific track to be read while checking the passage position of the material to be detected. CONSTITUTION:First and second sensor rows 3 and 4 are arranged in the direction orthogonal to a carrying direction X of a material 1 to be detected such as a bank note. In these sensor rows 3 and 4, electric charge corresponding to the quantity of incident light is stored by a start signal (b) from a counter 50, and an analog time series signal proportional to the stored electric charge is outputted synchronously with a clock signal (a) from an oscillator 5. An edge detection signal C detected by the sensor row 3 is made binary, and the passage position of an edge 12 of the material 1 is detected by a change detecting circuit 6 and is applied to a sample hold circuit 7 and an A/D converter 70. A pattern detection signal (d) obtained when the sensor row 4 detects a pattern of a track 11 is held in the circuit 7 and is stored in a memory 8, and the pattern on the track 11 is always read. |
