The invention relates to a single-sideband modulation system in which the modulated signal only occupies the bandwidth of the transmitted information whereas its envelope curve contains the information itself within the information band and some spectral components (distortions) above the maximum information frequency. Distortionless recovery of the information is possible by linear envelope curve demodulation with subsequent low-pass filter. The spectral components contained above the maximum information frequency have such little power that the system is suitable for compatible single-sideband modulation for long-, medium- and short-wave broadcasting. Such a signal is generated by connecting in front of an exponential modulator a digital real-time computer which generates an envelope curve with the said characteristics from the information function with the aid of an iteration method.
