Guide column for sliding part of shearing machine - uses demountable head secured by axial bolt to permit removal of lining sleeve

The sectional smooth faced column (3) provides for the sliding guidance of the moving parts e.g. of a shearing machine. The sectional construction facilitates dismantling of the machine. A head length (10) of the column may be detachable using a spigot (3a) and socket (12) joint, with a connecting bolt (15) accommodated by appropriately threaded axial bore holes (11,13) and a head recess (16). The bolt passes through the centre of the column. With the moving part fully elevated, the head length can be detached and the guide sleeve removed.
