PURPOSE:To enhance transfer efficiency and enable images free of voids to be printed with high density, by sequentially laminating a thermally releasable layer, a coloring material layer and a thermal ink layer on the upper side of a base. CONSTITUTION:The thermal transfer recording medium has a construction wherein the thermally releasable layer constituted mainly of a wax easily fusible and having a low melt viscosity, a coloring material layer constituted mainly of a pigment sparingly soluble and having a weak film-forming property, and the thermal ink layer constituted mainly of a binder becoming adhesive when being heated by a thermal head are sequentially laminated. A heat-resistant protective layer is provided by using a higher fatty acid, fluoro resin or a silicone resin. In producing the recording medium, coating materials for respectively forming the thermally releasable layer, the coloring material layer and the heat-sensitive adhesive layer may be sequentially provided on the base by dispersely mixing the respective components in a heated ball mill or attritor or dispersely mixing the components in a solvent, and applying the resultant mixture by a hot melt coater or a solvent coater. |
