PURPOSE:To obtain the titled element having an excellent display characteristic for a long period of the time and having no fear of lowering a display quality due to bleeding a colored substance contd. in a counter electrode substance into an electrolyte by using a hardener comprising an epoxy resin and an acid anhydride for a binding material component of the counter electrode substance. CONSTITUTION:The titled element comprises a pair of confronting substrates 1 and 5 which are transparent in at least display side, a display electrode member 100 consisting of a display electrode 2 formed on the inside surface of the display side substrate 1 and an electrochromic substance 3, and a counter electrode member 200 consisting of a counter electrode 6 formed on an inside surface of a counter substrate 5 and a counter electrode substance 7. The electrolyte 9 is inserted between the both electrodes 100 and 200. The facing electrode substance 7 contains the hardening agent composed of the epoxide resin and the acid anhydride as the binding component thereof. The counter electrode substance 7 formed on the counter electrode 6 has about 0.3 mm thickness. The epoxide resin which is one component of the binding components has 500-3000 mean mol.wt, preferably 900-2000 mean mol.wt. Thus, the titled element having the excellent display quality for the long period of time is obtd.
