PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a switching operation of tone dial/pulse dial by the user by using a call tone sensing means. CONSTITUTION:A tone signal generating means 14 sends a dial tone signal corresponding to a 1st digit of the telephone number to a telephone line 11 and if no dial tone is detected by a dial tone detection means 17 after the output of the dial tone signal corresponding to the 1st digit, the dial tone signal corresponding to succeeding digits is sent. Moreover, after the 1st digit is sent, when it is detected by the tone signal detection means 17, a tone/pulse switching means 18 is driven, a pulse signal generating means 15 is connected to the line and the dial pulse signal is sent again to the telephone line 11 from the 1st digit of the telephone number represented by the destination telephone number information extracted by an information extacting means 19 to establish the communication with the opposite party.
