The assembly apparatus has a plurality of main conveyors (11, 12, 13) situated in a common plane, of which a main conveyor (11) is situated in a main conveying section, while the other main conveyors (12, 13) branch off from the latter or run towards the latter at an angle. For the purpose of transfer of pallets or workpieces between the main conveying section and the branching-off conveying sections, transfer stations (18) are provided which in each case have a short transfer conveyor (19). The transfer conveyors (19) can be pivoted about a vertical axis (29). Their drive is derived from the drive of one of the adjoining main conveyors (11, 12). <IMAGE>
