PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for processing television signals containing a data component such as extended data service data. SOLUTION: This system processes a data component and is equipped with a decoder for providing time information (EDS time) data. A control microprocessor 110 responds to information maintained in the system, for example, data for correcting times. Time information decoded from a video signal is compared to time information maintained in the system and a time difference is determined. When the time difference TD is within the predetermined range, TD indicates that the time information from the television signal is not valid. The control device does not correct the time information maintained in the system and responds to the time difference within the predetermined range. A user inputs by way of a device such as a remote control 125 and controls so that the control microprocessor 110 responds to TD.
