PURPOSE: To obtain a stereoscopically viewed picture generating method which has a high stereoscopic sense from a short distance to a long distance and satisfactorily merges right and left pictures by varying the distance between visual points of a pair of TV cameras. CONSTITUTION: A pair of TV cameras 10a and 10b are installed in left and right visual point positions 300A and 300B for picture generation respectively, and a distance (d) between visual points is set to a reference value ds, and optical axes 100a and 100b are set in parallel. The distance (d) between visual points is changed in accordance with scenes. For example, when a stereoscopically viewed object 20 exists far away, the distance (d) between visual points is set to a value longer than the reference value ds; and when the object 20 exists close, the distance (d) between visual points is changed to a value shorter than the reference value ds. Thus, a high stereoscopical sense is obtained from a long distance to a short distance, and pictures for right and left eyes at a short distance are satisfactorily merged. |
