Industrial robot has an elevating shaft (14), a 1st arm (16) mounted at the upper end of the elevating shaft. A 2nd arm (20) which is pivotally attached to the forward end of the 1st arm via a transmission/reduction gear box (18) fixed to the 1st arm's forward end. A number of coupling bolts (22) extend the length of the interior of the 1st arm. Each bolt has one end (22b) fixed to a gear box flange (18a) and its other end (22a) projecting beyond the rear end of the 1st arm. Tightening nuts (24) are fitted at one or both ends of the bolts and serve to connect the 1st arm gear box while imposing preliminary compressive force on the 1st arm.
