PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved system and method for preparing and up-to- dately displaying a document. SOLUTION: An inquiring section is provided in a document for incorporating data from an independent data processing application and, when the document is prepared or up-to-dately displayed, the inquiring section automatically generates a prescribed command (22) and causes the independent application to execute the command. A composite document is prepared and up-to-dately displayed by automatically catching a data stream output generated in response to the execution of the command (300) and incorporating the stream output in the document (400). Therefore, the necessity of a customized link or originally developed link is reduced.
