ELECTROCHEMICAL GENERATOR

PURPOSE: To provide an electrochemical generator with a negative electrode made of a host metal alloyed with alkali or an alkaline-earth metal. CONSTITUTION: One of electrodes in an electrochemical generator is a metal electrode including a host metal structure alloyed with alkali or an alkaline- earth metal. In the metal electrode, the alloyed host metal structure is set in contact with electrolyte under the conditions that the electrode effects no insulation from the alloy upon the formation of an electronic insulating film on the surface of the alloy and no insulation from a fixed portion of the alloy upon the complete penetration of the electrolyte into the allayed region. That electrode is suitable to produce high current density, multi-cycle discharging or charging, and high density mass and volume energy.
