PURPOSE: To provide a metallic carrier for an electric heating type catalyst device, which is caused no breakage due to thermal stress, high in catalytic efficiency, increased in catalytic efficiency at the time of starting by electric heating system and formed into an easily manufacturable roll like honeycomb body. CONSTITUTION: A 1st honeycomb body 11 is formed into roll like shape by superposing a flat plate material 1, on which a catalyst carried layer is applied, a corrugated plate material 2 and a conductive foil, which is composed of a thin electric resistance body 4a covered with an insulating layer 4b, over the other without joining. A 2nd honeycomb body 12 is formed into roll like shape by superposing a flat plate material 11 , on which the catalyst carried layer is not applied, and the corrugated plate material 21 using a blazing filler. The 1st and 2nd honeycomb bodies are arranged in contact with each other in the axial direction and housed in an outer cylinder 3. Only the 2nd honeycomb body is joined to the outer cylinder. The air passage density of the 1st honeycomb body is controlled to be higher than that of the 2nd honeycomb body. Conductor connecting parts 4c and 4d provided on both end parts of the electric resistance body 4a are connected to a conductor 6 to heat the 1st honeycomb body 11 with an external electric source. |
