To position a tool carrier (WT) of a multiple cutting machine to which several drilling units (B1-B3) with a multiplicity of tool spindles (W1...W21) are attached, the positions of the tool spindles (W1...W21) relative to the tool-carrier zero point (WTO) are specified via the respective drilling-unit zero points (B10-B30). The geometrical distance of the tool spindles (W1...W21) to be positioned from the tool-carrier zero point (WTO) is taken into account as a positional correction during the calculation of the position.
