The end sections of the working rolls directly adjacent to the strip edges are heated at least to a temperature equal to the temperature of the working roll section covered and heated by the strip. Control of the temperature of the working rolls takes place by means of a computer model incorporating various known and measured rolling parameters. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for carrying out the hot rolling comprising cross-field inductor units (5) whose induction coils partially surround the working rolls (1, 2).
