Date Aug. 7, 1997The present invention provides a process for reducing carbonyl compounds to hydroxy compounds, in particular stereoselectively reducing alpha -aminohaloketone derivatives, under mild conditions in an easy and simple manner, which comprises reacting a carbonyl compound of the general formula (1) with an organoaluminum compound of the general formula (4) to provide the corresponding alcohol compound of the general formula (5).
