PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile phone that transmits remote control data sent by an optional remote control unit so as to realize the same remote control function as that of an optional remote control device for a device to be remotel- controlled. including an infrared ray receiving device. SOLUTION: In the mobile phone with a remote control function that is disclosed, the mobile phone 1 is provided with a memory 10 that stores remote control data, an infrared ray data modulation section 6 that generates a modulation drive signal with the remote control data read from the memory 10, and an infrared ray emitting element 8 that converts the modulation drive signal into a modulated infrared ray signal and transmits the modulated infrared ray signal. An infrared ray receiving element 16 of an infrared ray receiver 14 receives a modulated infrared ray signal and converts it into an electric signal, an infrared ray data demodulation section 15 demodulates the electric signal to recover the remote control data to allow the infrared ray receiver 14 to conduct remote control with the remote control data transmitted by an optional control device.
