The invention relates in particular to a method for the detection of motion in a sequence of images having a fixed or made to look fixed background, each picture element being represented by the value of its luminance. It consists, for each image, in : making a first estimate of the state of the picture element, as the moving elements may have a true motion or a motion due to noise; assigning to zones said moving elements that are related to each other, each zone being designated by a number (Z i ); characterizing each zone (Z i ) by the components of a vector E(Z i ) called "state vector" which is a function of the elements assigned to this zone in particular the number N(Z i ) of the picture elements assigned to the zone; determining for each zone (Z i ) whether there is a corresponding zone in the images preceding said current image and deriving from the result a value called "oldness" of this zone; considering that a picture element has a true motion, not due to noise, if the zone to which it belongs contains a number of elements greater than a predetermined threshold and if it has an oldness greater than a predetermined threshold. |
