Highly active alpha-olefin polymerization catalyst

A highly active alpha-olefin polymerization catalyst component is disclosed. In the presence of a co-catalyst, the catalyst component is useful for the production of LLDPE resins. The catalyst component is produced by a method whereby organic silicon compounds are reacted with a transition metal complex and active transition metal species is deposited on a silicon-containing MgCl₂ that is prepared in situ in the presence of the organic silicon compounds.
