PURPOSE: To profitably obtain the subject maleimide compound useful as a laminate material, etc., in a high yield in a high purity in simplified production processes without containing a solvent, by using a specific bisphenol and nitrobenzene as starting raw materiais. CONSTITUTION: A bisphenol of formula I [X is a divalent group such as C(CH3 )2 ; R is F, Cl, Br; m is 0-4] [e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane] is reacted with nitrobenzene in the presence of an alkali metal compound in an aprotic polar solvent. The obtained dinitro compound of formula II is mixed with a substituted benzene of formula III (Y, Z are halogen, etc.; n is 1-3) and catalytically reduced into a diamine compound of formula IV. The diamine compound of formula IV is dissolved in an aprotic polar solvent and subsequently addition-reacted with maleic anhydride. The produced bismaleamic acid of formula V is subjected to a dehydrative ring-closing reaction to obtain the objective bismaleimide of formula VI, which is deposited and separated. |
