PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image of high picture quality by reducing erroneous determination of image area separation due to show-through in separating an image area on one side of an original. SOLUTION: The image processor is provided with an image reader for reading one side and the other side of the original and an image area separation device 65 for classifying the read original image into a plurality of image areas which include a character area and a pattern area. The image area separation device 65 is provided with a white area extraction part 84 for reading density information X (X1 and X2) of images on one side and on the other side when determining the character area in image area separation of one side of the original to determine a white area of the original, and determines the character area when it is a white area. When extracting the white area on one side, threshold used as a white area extraction reference on one side is changed by using density information X2 on the other side. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
