PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter capable of suppressing temperature variation in LD right after the emission of a laser diode (LD) is permitted, and stabilizing the wavelength of a signal light. SOLUTION: The optical transmitter is equipped with an LD 10, an input terminal 40 receiving a control signal TX<SB>-</SB>Disable for permitting the emission of the LD 10, an LD driver 18 for driving the LD 10 when the control signal TX<SB>-</SB>Disable permits emission, a thermister 12 for detecting the temperature of the LD 10, an electronic cooling element 14 for cooling the LD 10, a temperature regulator 20 to provide to the electronic cooling element 14 a Peltier current Ip corresponding to the difference of a target signal Sb representing the target temperature of the LD 10 and a temperature monitoring signal Sa, and a wavelength variation suppressor 30A to change the Peltier current Ip based on the control signal TX<SB>-</SB>Disable to enlarge the cooling effect of the electronic cooling element 14 when the status of the control signal TX<SB>-</SB>Disable changes from inhibition to permission.
