PURPOSE:To provide the character editing device which easily and speedily generates and edits metrics including control information on longitudinal writing and lateral writing. CONSTITUTION:When character data are displayed on a display screen and edited, a character code list generation part 3c retrieves character data to be edited, which is specified by a character code specification part 3b and corresponds to a character code, in a font file storage part 5 stored with character data including shape data showing the shape of a character and metrics data for controlling the arrangement position of the character having the shape data, and displays out the shape data and metrics data as the retrieval result on the display screen of a display part 11. Then an editing part 3a edits the shape data and also generates and edits at least >=1 kind of metrics data from the metrics data. |
