The stabiliser comprises two components (1) located on either side of the spinal apophysis and designed to maintain the spacing between two adjacent vertebrae (L<1>, L<2>). They are made hollow so they can receive spongy grafts which permit inter-somatic fusion. Each of the components is parallelepiped in shape, with a hollow three-dimensional cage structure and apertures (1a, 1b, 1d, 1e) in its walls. The upper and lower surfaces of each component are striated to facilitate primary stability, and they are made from titanium or carbon fibre reinforced polymer.
