PURPOSE: To form a thin layer of an electrode active material and at the same time provide high output power of a battery by applying lead compound slurry mainly consisting of lead powder and water with no addition of sulfuric acid to a supporting body, immersing the resulting supporting body in diluted sulfuric acid, and then carrying out aging process in air. CONSTITUTION: A process 4 to prepare a slurry is carried out by adding water 3 in 10-100% of the weight of a lead powder 1, carbon powder as an acid resistant conductive material, and an additive 2 such as a binder to the lead powder 1 with 50-90% oxidized degree and mixing the mixture. The slurry is applied 5 in 100mg/cm<2> and 180μm thickness to a supporting body for which an expanded porous body with 0.2mm thickness and made of lead alloy is used. The obtained supporting body is dried 6, immersed 7 in diluted sulfuric acid with 1.4 specific gravity for 30 seconds, and then left for several hours to some ten hours at 40-80 deg.C and 80-100% humidity to carry out aging 8. A thin layer of an electrode active material can be formed on the supporting body and at the same time highly reactive lead dioxide can be obtained attributed to the production of tribasic acid lead sulfate. |
