In gas-shielded arc-welding apparatus torches using wires of different thicknesses and the associated wire-feeding devices are supplied by the same electrical installation. Rootwelding is effected by an air-cooled torch 21 using a thin electrode 19 fed by a device 11 and the weld is completed by a water-cooled torch 22 using a thicker electrode 20 fed by a device 12. Devices 11 and 12 may have a common drive or separate drives. A switch 35 connects either torch to the current source, e.g. a rectifier or converter. A separate voltage and feed rate control is provided for each torch. |
