In an apparatus for the mechanical formation of aerosols, a film of liquid flowing down the outside of a widening mouthpiece 1, Fig. 2, of ring-shaped, elliptical or "race track" cross-section, is atomized by air escaping under slight excess pressure e.g. about 0.4 atm, from a mantle formed within the mouthpiece by a vertically adjustable limiting body 6. The aperture angles of the mouthpiece and limiting body may differ e.g. 90‹ and 120‹-140‹ respectively (Fig. 5, not shown). The liquid may be distributed through orifices 12 in a ring shaped distributing pipe 11 and the threads of liquid combined into a single film by the teeth 14 of a crown-like ridge 13. Alternatively, the liquid may flow from a single continuous aperture 12a, Fig. 3, from under an annular collecting chamber 20. The size of the aperture is regulated by vertical adjustment of the wall 23 of the chamber with the aid of screws 24. The apparatus may be employed for regulating the moisture in air conditioned rooms or for finely dispersing a liquid in a chemical reaction chamber. In agricultural applications, six such spraying devices together with the ancillary equipment can be mounted on a tractor. By the provision of two separate semicircular distributing pipes 11 Fig. 2, and two separating strips (not shown) two liquids chemically reactive with each other can be kept apart until they reach the spray cone forming below the device. |
