1,161,028. Bolt cutter. EMERSON ELECTRIC CO. 18 July, 1967 [18 July, 1966], No. 32937/67. Heading B4W. [Also in Division B3] A bolt or cable cutter comprises a pair of spaced plates 18 with a pair of jaws 12 pivoted thereto and to a pair of handles which have mutually engaging cam surfaces 36 and gear means 40 detachably secured to each handle to synchronize the movement of the jaws and handles. The cam surfaces carry the major portion of the lead in operation. The handles are slidably mounted in slots 24, 26 in the plates 18 so that by removal of the bolts 22 which pivot the jaws to the plates, the plates can be moved rearward to allow the pivot pins 16 to be removed. The handles have bifurcated cam surfaces, Fig. 3 (not shown), between which a gear segment 40 is positioned. The segments abut the bolts 28, 30 and are held in position by pins 42. The cutter may be improved by providing a pair of L-shaped retainers (50), Figs. 6-8 (not shown). The jaws in this embodiment may be corrugated to grip the work. |
