A fade-out device for a cine camera comprises a pair of shutter blades 1a, 1b, of variable included angle α rotatable by a reversible drive-shaft 1, a reciprocably movable control member 23 actuating means for varying the angle α, a reciprocably movable gear sector 16 which is selectively driven by shaft 1 through a clutch, the rotation of sector 16 being transmitted to member 23 in one direction only through ratchet gear device 19, 20a, 20. Control knob 11 is used to disengage the clutch by turning cam 14 to lower spring-loaded plate 4 and hence to disengage rack 3a from worm gear 2 on shaft 1. This provides normal cine exposure. For fade-out, cam 14 raises rack 3a to engage the clutch whereby plate 3 is advanced to rotate sector 16 through predetermined angle corresponding to a set film length during which member 23 is shifted through pin 22 and slot 23a and closes blades 1a, 1b. The shaft 1 is then stopped. Fade-in is provided by rotating eccentric pin 22 through 180 degrees by means of knob 25. For double exposure photography, when fade-out is complete, knob 11 is set at B where cam 13 trips reverse lever 8 to reverse the drive to shaft 1 and so withdraw plate 3. The ratchet 19, 20a prevents movement of member 23, and the film so partly re-wound. Knob 11 is then set to advance drive and member 23 is driven through the other half of its cycle to open the blades 1a, 1b. |
