A disposable filter for liquids comprises a flat, pleated, single or multi-layer paper sealed around its periphery by strips 16 on each face and by a frame of cellulose acetate-butyrate 18, which is applied in several layers by dipping one side at a time, the frame being overlapped by a pair of end caps (20), of moulded, semi-rigid plastics and provided with internal staggered ribs 28 engaging the paper (Figs. 1, 2, not shown). End caps (20) and frame 18 form an integral housing enclosing the paper completely, and caps (20) have respective inlet and outlet connections 24. The filter may be rectangular to ensure that during construction the paper is inserted so that its pleats run perpendicular to ribs 28. Fig. 4 shows the filter enclosed by a supporting frame, made in two, hinged, triangular sections 40 (Fig. 3, not shown), plates 52 engaging end caps 20 to reinforce them against internal pressure. Cooling or heating water is passed through the spaces between plates 52 and outer plates 54.</p> |
