PURPOSE: To obtain a high density and high strength titanium carbide sintered compact in a short time. CONSTITUTION: Starting material for sintering based on titanium carbide powder or titanium carbide whiskers is pressurized to >=30MPa pressure at 1,700-2,200 deg.C and pulsating electric current of 100-10,000Hz frequency is supplied for 1-20min. The starting material may contain <=50vol.% alumina. A sintered compact consisting of tightly joined particles and suppressing a change in structure due to the heat history is obtd. |
