C. generator 10, e.g. for a vehicle, having permanent magnetic excitations and connected to its A.C. windings 11-13 to provide a D.C. output, a set of rectifiers 17-19 and 22-24 the latter of which are controllable by a regulator 27 connected to the D.C. output, operation of the regulator when starting the generator from rest is effected by applying to the D.C. output a voltage from an additional rectifier 35 connected in parallel with one, 24, of the controllable rectifiers, the current in such additional rectifier being controlled by means in dependence on the voltage across the D.C. output. As shown, the means comprises a relay 33 whose contacts 34 are opened by a coil 32 when the voltage reaches a valve at which a regulator blocking oscillator formed by a transformer 43 and a transistor 46 commences to oscillate and switch on the controllable rectifiers 22-24. A capacitor 29 is connected across the D.C. output leads 25, 26 to prevent voltage peaks during such switching. |
