The crude product is rectified so that the major part of the product together with low boiling components is taken off as vapour overhead and the remainder of the product together with the higher boiling components is removed as liquid from the column sump. The vapour is then rectified so that the pure product is recovered as liquid from the sump and the low boiling components are removed as vapour overhead. The remainder of the product and heavy ends are also further rectified from which pure product is recovered as overhead and the heavy ends withdrawn from the sump are evaporated to recover the small amount of product, they still contain.
