PURPOSE: To provide a video telephone system with an image pickup device to photograph the transmitting images and can stop the transmission of images as necessary while keeping a talking state. CONSTITUTION: An image pickup device 20 is provided with the lenses 54 and 55 which are facing the outside of both casings 41 and 59 through a light incident window 21 to form the optical images on the light receiving surface or an image pickup body 52, and a shielding plate 56 which can emerge between both lenses 54 and 55 and the window 21. The plate 56 functions to shield the lenses 54 and 55 so that the transmission of images can be stopped as necessary with a talking state kept as it is. When both lenses 54 and 55 are mechanically and not electrically shielded by the shielding body 56, these lenses can be hidden to a user to give the him a sense of security that the images are not transmitted. Furthermore, the white balance can easily be adjusted when the characteristic is given to the plate 56 to transmit the reference white light for adjustment of the white balance. |
