PURPOSE: To provide a recording and reproducing device for a stereoscopic video signal having sure compatibility with an existing 2-dimensional VTR (e.g. 8mm VTR) by conducting tape loading matching with a recording track area of a recorded video image of a 2-dimensional video image or a stereoscopic video image. CONSTITUTION: A tape exit leading guide 15 is switched selectively to any of two positions depending on a difference of recording and reproduction between a stereoscopic video image and a 2-dimensional video image at the end of tape loading. That is, the recording and reproducing device is used to have a loading device where a tape winding angle to a cylinder 23 is selected when the tape loading is finished. When the video signal to be recorded or reproduced is a stereoscopic video signal, a tape is wound on the cylinder 23 at an angle of 180 deg. or over to cover a main signal area and a difference signal area and when the video signal to be recorded or reproduced is a 2-dimensional video signal, a tape is wound on the cylinder 23 to cover only a main signal area and then the tape is driven. |
