Solvent (for example water or other liquid) is removed from a base material 21 (which may be continuous as shown, or a metal or plastics part &c.), by injecting one or more streams of superheated vapour of the solvent on to the base material through nozzles 28, in a shaped chamber 26, and subsequently exposing the base material to conditions of temperature and pressure in the duct 11 such that evaporation of the solvent readily takes place. The evaporated solvent is condensed at 31 and may be revaporized at 35 and superheated at 36, to be redirected on to the base material through nozzles 28. |
