The fabric is moved, in the form of a continuous band, to a position between two half moulds, one of which includes a movable spindle. The moulds are brought together, and the spindle moved to its extreme position to hold the fabric stretched whilst the plastic is injected to form a skirt portion of the button in which the edges of the fabric are encapsulated. After moulding, excess fabric is cut from the periphery of the skirt.
