Mfe. of a sealed battery in which a mixture of powdered thermoplastic resin, with hydrated silica gel opt. contg. a catalyst, is arranged around a number of plates with porous separator layers between them and heated to >100 degrees C in saturated steam to form a liquid absorbing body, which is subsequently impregnated with an electrolyte and placed in a can. The terminals of the plates are connected in series and the can sealed by known methods. The cell of invention does not lose electrolyte through the case.
