1,261,432. Stabilized zirconia. DEUTSCHE GOLD - UND SILBER - SCHEIDEANSTALT. 10 April, 1969 [27 April, 1968], No. 18337/69. Heading C1J. Stabilized zirconium dioxide is made by heating at 1100-1300‹ C. a mixture of equimolecular amounts of ZrO 2 and CaO with Al 2 O 3 and/or iron oxide and/or SiO 2 and optionally MgO and excess CaO, mixing the intermediate product with more ZrO 2 to reduce its alkaline earth metal content to 10-30 mol. per cent, moulding and sintering at 1600- 1900‹ C. The amount of Al 2 O 3 and/or iron oxide and/or SiO 2 used is at least that necessary to combine any CaO or MgO not combined with the ZrO 2 . The intermediate product contains 0À2 to 20 wt. per cent Al 2 O 3 and/or iron oxide and/or SiO 2 , 0À05-8 wt. per cent MgO and 21-33 wt. per cent CaO and is fine-grained, friable and readily crushed and passed through a 35Á screen. An aqueous solution of a cellulose ether is used as a moulding aid. Instead of oxides, compounds, e.g. carbonates, which are thermally decomposed to the oxides can be used. |
