<p>A cap is removed from the cable end and the insulation (5, 6) cut back and sealed. A tube (9) having a gasket (10, 11, 12, 13) is slid into the core conductor's duct (3), so that the gasket is adjacent to, but down stream from, the cut-back end and forms a seal between the duct and the tube. The conductor ends are brought into abutment, the tube's other end sliding into the other conductor's duct. A clamping band (30, 31) is secured around the band conductor at a position aligned with the gasket. The bared conductor strands are clamped together and welded while applying suction through the clamping device (20, 21), to withdraw any oil leaking through the strands downstream from the clamping band. The cable insulation is then remade.</p> |
