1429077 Isomerizing paraffins SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 19 April 1973 [25 April 1972] 18886/73 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] C 4 -C 6 paraffins are isomerized at not more than 300‹ C. with a catalyst comprising one or more Pt-group metals supported on an H- mordenite, where the catalyst has been subjected prior to the isomerization to contact at 350-530‹ C. with a gas in which the partial water vapour pressure (P H2O ) expressed in mm. Hg satisfied the relationship where T is the temperature in ‹ C. The isomerization may be carried out at 200-300‹ C. preferably in the presence of H 2 . The water vapour pressure relationship may apply to pretreatment of the catalyst with an oxygencontaining gas or to reduction of the catalyst with H 2 .
