<p>The vehicle gear box has a synchronization system which includes tapered friction rings (30) and a slider ring assembly (10). The friction rings are joined by axial bolts (31) such that the gap between the rings locates locking segments and spherical steel balls. To couple two gear wheels of unequal rotational speed, the slider ring is moved axially in either direction so that one of the two friction rings engages the appropriate tapered collar of a gear wheel. When the speed is synchronized, the slider ring is able to complete its movement, thus the two gear wheels can be brought in mesh with each other without difficulty. At that stage, the locking spheres are displaced against radial compression springs.</p> |
