<p>The parent patent describes a plant for charging a feed stream, which consists of or contains hydrogen, with deuterium, using water having a natural deuterium conc. A number of distn. columns in series with increasing deuterium concn. are used; water is brought into contact with steam in a steam-hydrogen mixt. supplied to the columns. Before introduction to each column, the mixt. is super-heated in a sepg. stage, in which steam is contacted with hydrogen. The mixt. is then cooled by thermal exchange with mixt. entering a sepg. stage and finally the feed flow sepd. from the steam is fed from the mixt. having the highest deuterium concn. into the monothermic or bithermic enrichment process, is brought into isotope exchange with a liq. exchange medium contg. hydrogen and, together with the sepd. and re-evaporated water, is superheated and fed into the sepg. stage having the lowest deuterium concn. The mixt. is then cooled and supplied into the distn. column having the lowest deuterium concn. of the mixt. In this addn., a heat recuperator is incorporated upstream of each sepg. stage. Pref., this recuperator is a rotary appts., having thermal storage units through which the mixt. passes before it enters the sepg. stage and again after is has passed through the sepg. stage. The rotary heat exchanger or recuperator instead of a contra-flow heat exchanger for superheating the steam leads to a considerably cost saving.</p> |
