The tension measuring device (18, 19), connected to a tension measuring roll (13), for measuring the winding tension of web-shaped material wound onto a beam or taken off from the relevant tree is arranged outside the plane of the greatest tension in such a manner that its measuring plane extends outside the plane (15, 15a) of the greatest tension. The arrangement is preferably configured such that the plane (15) of the greatest tension, with increasing winding, moves away from the tension measuring device (18, 19) or the measuring plane (17) thereof. In this kind of arrangement of the tension measuring device (18, 19) the load changes, caused by the different winding, of the tension measuring roll (13) cause at most insignificant changes to the measured value of the winding tension. <IMAGE>
