Process for the preparation of novel D-homosteroids

The D-homosteroids of the formula <IMAGE> which act hormonally on the endocrine system and in which R<1> is hydroxyl, acyloxy, alkoxy or lower alkyl, R<2> is hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine and R<3> is hydrogen or methyl, are distinguished by particular selectivity in their action. These 3-oxo- DELTA <4,16>-D-homosteroids of the formula I can be obtained by oxidation from the corresponding 3-hydroxy- DELTA <5(6),16>-D-homosteroids.
