Novel D-homosteroids which have endocrine activity and additionally display antiinflammatory properties and which are distinguished by selectivity in the action have been found. These active substances correspond to the formula <IMAGE> in which R<6> is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine or the methyl group, R<9> is fluorine, chlorine or bromine, R<17a> is hydroxyl or acyloxy and R<21> is halogen or a sulphate or phosphate radical or the radical of a di- or tricarboxylic acid in the form of a water-soluble salt, where the dotted line in ring A indicates that the 1,2 bond can be either saturated or unsaturated. The said active substances are prepared from the corresponding 9,11-epoxysteroids by treatment thereof with hydrogen fluoride, chloride or bromide.
