PURPOSE:To obtain compounds useful as a precursor of agricultural chemicals and isocyanates in high yield by reacting a compound having nitro group with carbon monoxide, hydrogen and organic hydroxyl group-containing compound in the presence of a platinum group metallic compound and carrier. CONSTITUTION:A compound having nitro group (e.g., nitrobezene) is reacted with carbon monoxide, hydrogen and an organic hydroxyl group-containing compound (e.g., methyl alcohol) in the presence of a simple substance of a group VIII transition metal belonging to the platinum group of the periodic table or/and a compound thereof supported on a carrier, further a nonmetal halide (e.g., hydrogen chloride) and water at 60-230 deg.C under 1-50kg/cm<2> pressure for 5min-6hr to afford the objective substances. Thereby, the amount of the catalyst used can be remarkably reduced and hydrogen-containing CO gas can be used as the raw material gas to synthesize the objective substances under a low pressure. |
