摘要 PURPOSE:To shorten discharge time for preliminary discharge and besides, to achieve reduction of an ink amount required for the preliminary discharge by a method wherein a discharge energy generation element selected among a plurality of discharge units is driven only in processing time for discharge stabilization of an ink jet recording head. CONSTITUTION:A heater part HT is composed of 12 heaters H1 to H12. Driving signals are applied to 10 heaters H2 to H11 among them according to contents of recording signals S2 to S11 from a LSI 1, a recording command, and ink is discharged from an ink discharge port to record a character, a graphic, etc., on a material to be recorded. Further, heaters H1 and H12 are used exclusively for discharge recovery and preliminary discharge, and discharge ports corresponding thereto are respectively arranged at both ends of a discharge port arrangement corresponding to heaters H2 to H11. Preliminary discharge is performed by using those all 12 heaters or by using only two heaters H1 and H2. By arranging discharge units having no part in recording at most end parts, the number of dots for preliminary discharge becomes about half of the number of traditional dots, and the number of dots capable of obtaining a good character and a good graphic becomes the number of heads of a same degree.
