The apparatus includes a band-pass filter (11) which filters input video signals (A) to extract the luminance component. The pass-band is equal to 4.3 MHz. The output is split and part is passed to a narrow band filter (12) with a passband of 4.28 MHz. This signal is fed to an voltage-controlled amplifier. The other output (B) is passed to a quality compensator (20), with a detector (22). The input level is compared with a non-blanking pulse burst (BGP) which sets a reference level. The DC chrominance level (D) is passed to the amplifier. The amplified chrominance signal is passed to a limiter (13) and frequency divider (14) where the output is split into four chrominance parts.
